A Reunion

Last month we got together with some of my old coworkers- I don't think the adults had all been together in 10 years and we'd never all been together with our kids. Each family had one boy and one girl and we had the best time! We played a game of baseball, kids versus adults, and picked up where things had left of as if no time had passed at all. I am so grateful for this group of people and it was so much fun to see our kids all hanging out. 

Sunny weather!

I just found these pictures from over a month ago which is a nice reminder that there have been days without rain! It was 70 degrees in March and we made the most of it. We spent the entire day outdoors and I told the kids to close their eyes and imagine they were on a beach. It worked and we all were washed away by the warmth. They also spent a lot of time looking for rocks in the yard and Brian paid them a penny a rock!

Day Trips

On our trip to Semiahmoo we also took in some sites in the local towns. We also discovered a cool county park that had a discovery tower, fragrance garden and an amazing 1.5 mile boardwalk through the marsh.  While in Canada we explored the city of White Rock and discovered it was, in fact named after a white rock. It was a wet day but we enjoyed a walk along the beach and found the totem poles. 

Both were fun little adventures that made for another memorable spring break trip in the pacific northwest. 

Yahoo Semiahmoo!

Over Spring Break we headed up to a family resort called Semiahmoo which is right on the border with Canada. The resort was at the end of a 1.5 mile long sandy spit with incredible views of the mountains and the sound. Even though it was the off-season, we made the most of it and the rain did stay away for some of the trip. Some of the highlights:

- swimming in the indoor/outdoor heated pool 

- playing pickleball and tennis in the indoor gym

- going on a bike ride on the spit along the waterfront

- watching movies in the indoor movie theatre

- driving to Canada to get Tim Horton's donuts

- having s'mores on the beach

- seeing two eagles perched on the trees welcoming us to the resort

- trying not to get blown away on our walk to the beach

Easter

We had another wonderful Easter celebration. Unfortunatley the weather wasn't as nice this year, but we made the most of it and the kids still found TONS of eggs and put their hunting skills to work inside. We started the day with an Easter egg at our house and then had our annual tradition at Kim and Rob's. The kids (unknowingly) shared some of their candy with the dog Milo who didn't bother opening the eggs or the candy- he just ate them whole! The egg hunts combined took less than 10 minutes, but the kids spent hours organizing and counting their loot.

Batmobile

Cameron's school had an awesome event the other week. At the beginning of the year we were told that they were to build a box car for the "best day ever." Well Brian let Cameron choose (thanks google) and he went with the not-so-simple selection of a batmobile! Brian did not disappoint and with Cameron's "help" they built an absolutely amazing car. It was completed with decals, steering wheel, instrument panel (Cameron designed solo) and of course bat wings.
The school put in an equal amount of the effort and the day was incredible. I got to see their preperation first hand and it was impressive. Here's just a taste of the degree to which they planned this event.
- the kids arrived to find parking spots specially marked on the floors outside their rooms
- the teachers (with matching pit stop t-shirts) greeted the kids by giving them a drivers license (with their picture) and a key for their car
- the kids got to drive their cars through a pretend car wash- but complete with real bubbles
- the kids went to a "drive in movie theatre" and watched a movie from their cars in the gym
- the theatre was had a concession stand with popcorn for the kids!
- their was even a repair shop to fix cars

In short, it was amazing and the kids not only learned about traffic signs and car safety but had an amazing time. The event was even featured on the local news- link below.

More Visitors!!

Last weekend we had visitors in town, which we always love, and we had the best time. My friend Ally came to visit with her husband Tomas and their daughter Bronwyn who is about 6 months older than Cameron. I think Ally wins for the friend who has visited most often and without fail she brought some great weather with her. We showed them around (in the man-van) and did a ton of walking and site seeing, even though Bronwyn wasn't feeling the best. Besides that, the only thing I'd change would be for them to stay longer!
