Halfway Point

I just realized that Cameron is 6 weeks old which means I am already halfway through my maternity leave. I can't believe how quickly this has gone by! Cameron is such a good baby that I have truly enjoyed this time and I can't quite fathom what it's going to be like to manage 2 kids and working full-time. Just getting out of the house at a reasonable time seems like an impossible goal, let alone managing everything else that needs to get done in a day. I guess I have 6 more weeks to enjoy this time before my world goes upside down...again.
Which also means we have 6 weeks to get Cameron to take a bottle. He seems to have regressed and will no longer take a bottle which is more than a little frustrating on multiple levels. Ah the joys of newborns!

Sleeping Baby

There is nothing sweeter than a sleeping baby, except maybe a sleeping baby on your lap. Lucky for my Dad and Kathy, Cameron is an excellent napper and loves falling asleep on your lap so they both got to experience the best part of a newborn and even Addy was more cuddly than normal.

Read-a-thon

You might have thought there was a reading contest going on at our house while my Dad and Kathy were here. I'm not kidding when I say Kathy probably read out loud to the kids at least 3-4 hours a day! Adelyn is always in the mood for reading books, but her cold made her even more interested than normal and she was more than happy to sit book after book after book, listening to the stories. She was spoiled by having 3 extra readers in the house who were willing to read every page of the Dr. Suess books! I have a rule with Addy that I'll read her 3 books, unless one of them is Dr. Suess because they are so long, and even then I generally try and skip a few pages here and there. Well, lucky for Addy no one else did that so she got more than usual! She loved every minute of it and continues to amaze me with her patience and attention span for listening to books, hopefully this will rub off on her little brother too!

Cousin Jack

I've mentioned before that Jack is extremely attentive and interested in his younger cousins, he is so patient, even at times when they are not so interested in him. I am happy to say that during this trip he definitely solidified his relationship with Adelyn and got the honor of being the first cousin to meet Cameron. I can't say enough of how impressed I was with him on this trip. He was patient, funny, helpful, responsible and quite sweet for a 10 year old boy. How many 10 year olds do you know that would spend their own money to buy their aunt flowers for her birthday? This one did! I would say that  I would be a pretty proud mama if Cameron turns out to be like his big cousin Jack.

Birthday Trip

Today is the last night that my Dad, Kathy and Jack are in town. It has been great! Jack got to come for his 10th birthday and was here to help me celebrate my birthday and to meet Cameron. We have had so much fun and I swear Cameron has grown up in just the last few days. It was great to have the extra help, especially since Addy was pretty sick, but we still had a lot of fun. Brian and I even got a date night to ourselves, I don't remember the last time we had that!  They will be missed, pictures to come soon.

Got Sleep?

For the most part, I've adjusted pretty well to the lack of sleep I'm experiencing with Cameron. I did enlist Brian's help over the weekend to give Cameron a bottle at night so I could try and get a little extra sleep, but I think the lack of sleep might be catching up to both of us.
On Saturday night when I was reading to Addy before bed, I ended up falling asleep in her bed (even before she did) and Brian snapped this photo of me sleeping with the kids.
Then on Sunday, Brian put Addy down for her nap and when he didn't come downstairs for awhile I caught him asleep in her bed. I guess we are both just trying to get a few zzz's however we can.

One Month

Cameron is officially one month old! I can't believe how quickly this month has gone by. He has already changed so much. He's outgrown his newborn clothes, he's smiling, his neck is so much stronger and he's learned to drink from a bottle as well. I feel so lucky to have such a handsome, healthy, happy baby.

Say Cheese

I'll admit this past week was not my favorite, but what did make it worth it is that Cameron is now smiling on a fairly regular basis. I got a smile, but wasn't sure if it was on purpose, but then both Brian and I got one and we even caught it just in time with the camera. So cute!!

Like Brother, Like Sister

Add another one to the list for ways Adelyn and Cameron are similar, or at least similar scenarios.  When Addy was a baby and first slept for 5 hours straight, I ended up with mastitis. Here we are with the exact same scenario. The other night Cameron slept for 5 hours at night and I got my first stretch of sleep that was more than 2.5 hours. Sure enough I came down with a fever and have the same thing again. It doesn't seem fair that one good night's sleep should be punished so quickly! Luckily Cameron has been an angel baby and I have been able to get some naps and take it easy. Hopefully this recovery will be just as quick as it was with Addy.

Cameron or Adelyn

Maybe it's just me but I can definitely see a resemblance between my kids. Of course I couldn't resist reenacting some photos from when Addy was a baby.  If you're playing along, it goes Addy, Cam, Addy, Cam every time.

Stats

I can't help comparing Cameron to Adelyn and this maternity leave to my last. I can say Cameron definitely sleeps a lot more and seems to be an even easier baby that Adelyn was. He doesn't sleep for quite as long of periods at night, but certainly seems to sleep a lot more during the day. I am loving every minute of this and truly feel relaxed. While I was pregnant I joked that being home with a newborn would feel like a vacation compared to my job and I think I was right. This kind of feels like a vacation (but shhh, don't tell anyone).
Cam is proving to be a bigger eater than Addy was as well. He has outpaced her for weight gain and at 2 weeks was already over his birth weight at 9 pounds 1 oz (50%) and is up to 21.5 inches (75%). No surprises there, I seem to raise big babies! He is already growing out of his newborn clothes, I can't believe how quickly they grow.

Cam the Man

Cameron is three weeks old today and I'm officially in love with this little guy. He is so cute and handsome I can hardly stand it. I find myself constantly taking pictures of him to try and capture just how adorable he is, but of course it isn't even close. This is what I end up with. He always looks scared or confused. Oh well, I'll have to just keep trying.
