Merry Christmas!

Christmas has already come and gone, where does the time go? We had a wonderful Christmas Eve with Chuck & Robin and their family. It was Cameron's first public appearance and he was a huge hit! He didn't cry until it was time to leave and he slept through almost the whole thing. We all were spoiled with wonderful food and gifts and it was a great night.
When we got home Addy remembered that we had to leave Santa some milk and cookies and the reindeer needed some carrots. Sure enough they were gone in the morning and the stockings were filled and there were new presents under the tree. We had the most relaxing Christmas ever and we all stayed in our pj's for the entire day. It was fabulous, I feel so blessed this year, I really couldn't ask for anything else.

Best Big Sister

It's official, Addy is an amazing big sister and Cameron loves her.  She is very gentle with him and loves to hold him and read and sing to him. He loves to look at her and sometimes calms down when she talks to him. It is about the cutest thing I've ever seen. Addy does have a sudden interest in all of her old baby things, but seems perfectly content to share with him, I'm hoping that continues. Everyone told me that watching the bond between siblings was one of the best things about having more than one child and I can definitely see that is true and we've only just begun. I can't wait!

White Christmas

I'll admit I haven't been paying much attention to the news lately which is why yesterday I was so surprised to wake up to see snow covering the ground. Even if it only was a couple inches it was a fun surprise and made it feel even more like Christmas.  Addy had fun playing in it before school which was good because it was gone by the time she got home. I'm sure we won't have a white Christmas but that was fun while it lasted.

End of an "Ear"-a

To say it's been a busy week is a bit of an understatement. We headed to the hospital on Wednesday, got home Friday night, Brian's parents flew home on Sunday and then on Monday we had Addy's ear surgery scheduled to have her blockage removed. Brian was home from work and he was able to take her. She was her normal stubborn self and refused to put on the gown, even after receiving some medicine to help calm and relax her before the surgery. Everything went great and the doctor was able to remove the blockage and the tube and confirmed that putting her under was the only way it was ever going to come out. Afterwards, she didn't even want to come home because they had Cinderella and Dora playing in the recovery room! We are just relieved it's over and we don't have to deal with this ear anymore (knock on wood). She knew it was her day to be queen though as she stayed in her pajamas all day, got to watch lots of Dora and got to eat on the couch. Here is our little patient enjoying some R&R.

Early Christmas

When we got home from the hospital Friday night we decided to celebrate Christmas with Brian's parents. They made a wonderful turkey dinner and then we opened presents. Addy loved helping everyone open the presents, but I think what fascinated her most was a large piece of bubblewrap. She didn't even seem to care what was in it, but proceeded to pop the bubbles for several minutes before returning to the presents. It was a lot of fun and great to be able to open presents in person with Scott and Wendy. Addy was a lucky girl and got some awesome presents including her own Dora blanket with matching blankets for her dolls, a tent for her dolls and her fancy shiny star "party outfit."

The Arrival

I thought I should probably do a post about the exciting arrival of little Cameron. This experience was so drastically different than Addy's delivery, Brian and I couldn't believe it. Wednesday started with me having a scheduled visit with my doctor that included an ultrasound, a non-stress test to monitor Cameron and an exam. Everything came out perfectly, no red flags, no signs of labor, nothing. I'll admit I was disappointed, I was so ready to have this baby. My doctor mentioned that if nothing happened in the next 5 days that I was on the schedule for Monday to come in again. I told her that I really didn't think I could make it to Monday and that I just wanted to have this baby now. She talked me through my options and said that she was on call that day so they could call the labor and delivery dept and see if they had any beds available. We were told that they did and we would get a call in the next 2 hours to come in. Brian and I talked through it and decided to go for it, we were going to go have a baby that day! We were checked into the hospital by 2:00 and I was hooked up and ready to start the pitocin to get the labor going. Everything was going perfectly, I started contractions, I got an epidural, they broke my water and the nurse joked that we would have the baby in time to order dinner before the cafeteria closed at 7:30. All signs pointed to a 12/12/12 baby! Then just before 7:00 pm the nurse helped turn me from one side to the other and suddenly within 1 minute there were 5 other people in the room. I had no idea what was going on, other than it couldn't be good. I instantly started crying and they tried to reassure me everything was fine, but I could tell they weren't 100% confident. Finally, a few minutes later they all seemed slightly more relaxed and explained to me that Cameron had experienced an extremely sharp decline in heart rate, it was so fast and so sharp they couldn't find the heart rate for several minutes. They gave me a shot to stop the contractions because they needed to make sure he had recovered fully and could handle them again. So the next few hours we just waited and they monitored Cameron. Thankfully everything was looking great and then my body started contractions on it's own. He and I were both ready to start the process again! The contractions continued, although slowly, but everything was fine. In the next few hours there were 2 more significant declines in his heart rate, but not as drastic or severe as the first one. Finally, shortly after 1:00 am they were ready to have me push, when he finally arrived his cord was wrapped tightly around his neck and he was all blue and purple. I have never been so scared in my life. They put him on me and I honestly didn't think he was alive. They pulled him away and I watched as two nurses rubbed and rubbed him to try and get a response. Finally, after the longest 2 minutes of my life, I heard a loud scream, it was the best sound I've ever heard. Cameron was fine, although still purple with white hands and feet, but fine. He was so adorable and Brian and I were so relieved that everything was ok. It wasn't until they were moving us to the recovery room that the nurse admitted that Cameron had given everyone on staff a lot of gray hairs and I was very close to needing an emergency c-section. She reassured me that coming in early still was the right decision because the cord would have been wrapped around him either way. That was also a relief to hear and Cameron recovered so quickly that they even let us out of the hospital earlier than the recommended 48 hours. All of the doctors have assured us that he is completely healthy and has no side effects from the stressful delivery. We are so thrilled and proud of our little man.

We Did It!

Just a quick post from the hospital to say that we made it! On December 13th at 1:53 AM, Cameron Scott made his dramatic entrance (more on that later) weighing in at 8 pounds 6.9 oz and 20 inches long. We are all doing well and trying to get some much needed rest. We just got the green light that both Cameron and I are healthy enough to leave today so that is exciting. We are anxious to get home. Yesterday Grandma Wendy and Grandpa Scott brought big sister Adelyn to meet Cameron in the hospital. It was great, we are so blessed.
