Happy Easter

We had another wonderful Easter and continued our tradition of an egg hunt at home from the Easter bunny and then going to Kim and Rob's to have lunch and another big egg hunt for the kids. It was really fun as both kids were into finding the eggs and were very curious about what what inside. They caught on very quickly as to which ones would have candy versus stickers versus money. Everything was quickly opened and sorted and has since been resorted over and over again. I love that after one day my kids forget about actually eating the candy and just enjoy putting it into piles and counting and sorting!
It was another wonderful Easter and we are all ready for Spring!

Double Date

Last weekend we had double days of double playdates. The first day we had Lizzy and Bobby over to play and on Sunday we had Harper and her sister Hattie. It was cute because each time the two younger kids were just following the two older kids around. The best part was both days the kids wanted to play outside and it was deja vu watching them on the swings. They had a blast and we were actually able to leave the kids to play by themselves for awhile. I can see the beauty of a lot of double play dates in the future!

April Fools!

I've spent the last 24 hours trying to explain to the kids what "April Fool's Day" is. It's safe to say it was not very successful. It started last night with Addy when I told her that today would be the start of a new month. She immediately went to her Frozen calendar and changed the page and saw that it was Olaf & exclaimed, "oh yeah it's Olaf because he is funny and April is a funny month because of April Fool's." She also knew what it was because of an Arthur book that we have but she was confident that the jokes in that book "were not good ones to use" (she was right.) Before bed we brainstormed some funny tricks that she could play the next day at school. She said that she could tell her teacher that we were getting a cat for a pet (obviously a joke!). So we practiced it and she said it perfectly. We also thought she could tell her teachers she was moving to Wisconsin, so we practiced that (I played the role of her teacher) and again she nailed it. I told her that her teachers would think she was so funny. This resulted in her saying, "well I don't want to say this because I don't want everyone to laugh at me because then I will be sad" and within seconds she was actually crying at the thought of telling a joke and making everyone laugh. Not the reaction I was expecting.

This morning Cameron and I went to wake her up and I said, "Happy April Fools' Day!" and she asked me to tell her an April Fools' joke.  She hated my first one (I told her all of her hair fell out) so then I told her that Santa Claus was downstairs (to try and get her out of bed). She knew it was a joke, but I forgot that Cameron was still new to the concept. So of course he was super excited to go downstairs and was quite disappointed to find out I had just been joking (where is Santa, I don't see him?). Over breakfast we tried to explain the idea to Cameron and told him that he could tell his teacher he was Superman as a joke. He loved it and quickly stated, "I'm Superman, April Fool's!" I told him he had to tell that to his teacher when he got to school, but instead he insisted on telling me that he was not Superman, he was Cameron. He was not interested in telling anyone a joke that wasn't true.

When we got to school I tried to nudge both kids to tell their jokes and but they just yelled in refusal. They wouldn't even tell them to Brian after school. I think we'll keep working on this one and see if next year is more successful!

What's Yours is Mine

I've always joked that Addy should be a detective. Whenever I try and hide something from her she sniffs it out instantly, and literally if it has to do with food. That girl can smell something from a mile away. The other night while they were playing I snuck a few peanut butter pretzels. Several minutes later I walk in and Addy says "I smell peanut butter, mommy were you eating something?"
And perhaps more than once I've snuck something for dessert hoping she wouldn't notice but of course she does every time. Then she always reminds me that "whatever I have she wants to have too" and then she proceeds to help herself.

Cameron is the same when it comes to sensing if he is going to be left out of something. Often times we tell Addy she can watch TV either during Cameron's nap or after he goes to bed at night. As soon as I lean over to whisper something to Addy, Cameron just yells, "I want to do it too!" Addy has been good about pretending to Cameron that she's not doing anything fun but I think he even has figured her out.  Brian and I have to tell him that we are just doing "boring work" or going to the "boring store" whenever we go or do something without him so that he doesn't feel left out. I'm not sure that it's really working because he always makes it clear that he wants to be included in everything and is quite upset at the mere thought of being left out.

Fairytale & Superhero day

Friday was the last day of spirit week at school and it was "Fairytale & Superhero" day. Cameron wore his superman pajamas and Addy wore her Ariel dress. They could not have been more excited. Every day that week Cameron had asked if it was time to wear his Superman pajamas and multiple times both kids said that they wished every day they could wear these clothes. I don't think they will adjust very well to just going back to regular school days this week.

Crazy Hair Day

It's spirit week at the kids school and yesterday was crazy hair day. I had fun helping them create their crazy hair inspiration. Cameron looked like he had a faux mohawk, but by the time Brian picked him up he only had one little ponytail left, much to Addy's despair since they were her pony tail holders. Addy was going for a funny/crazy/beautiful flower fairy look.

Happy St. Patty's Day!

We really got into St. Patty's day this year because Adelyn had to make a leprechaun trap for school. It was so much fun we made one for Cameron too. And the kids got decked out in their St. Patty's day gear and we made green cookies!
