Best Ever(t) Camping Trip

This weekend we went on our best (and only!) family camping trip ever. Brian did a bunch of research online and found an incredible campground. The only problem was they didn't have any weekend openings (because most people plan their camping trips in the winter!) so we decided to go on a Sunday/Monday. It was perfect!
After packing the car literally to its gills, we were on our way to Whidbey Island. It was only a couple hour drive and it was very scenic and beautiful, which is probably why the kids didn't fall asleep like we had hoped they would. We stayed at an old military fort that was turned into a state park. The views were incredible and there was so much to do. It had lots of trails, a small lake that we tried fishing in, beachfront on the Sound and an incredible military gun battery that we could explore. Unfortunately there was a burn ban so we couldn't have a campfire, but that didn't stop us from enjoying some hot dogs and s'mores! We also watched a beautiful sunset from up on the bluffs.
The kids had a great time and the only truly challenging part was from about 10 pm to 6 am. The mattress that Brian and I slept on starting leaking at some point in the night and it just kept getting flatter and flatter until it was literally completely flat. Cameron woke us up at 4:30 am screaming and then Addy woke up for the day about an hour later. Also for some reason our tent got completely wet on the inside. So we didn't get much sleep but that's to be expected when you're camping. The kids loved exploring and sleeping outside and it really was a fun trip. I am excited to make this a yearly tradition.
