Half of a Year

It's hard to believe that Addy has been in our lives for half of a year already. Part of me feels like it was just yesterday that she was born and part of me feels like she has been a part of our lives forever. What is clear to me is that she is literally changing before our eyes. The other day Brian was watching her play and said that he really thought he could see her learning. I believe it. If you show her something one day, she's doing it herself the next. It's amazing. Her latest achievement to master is sitting up. Here she is showing off her skills (and her teeth!). Happy 6 months Addy!

Mmmm...Food

After almost 6 months of eating the exact same thing every day, this weekend Addy got her first taste of rice cereal and formula. I was a little worried how she would take to both of them but clearly it wasn't an issue. She instantly took to the rice cereal and even knew what to do when the spoon came toward her mouth. I think watching the other kids at daycare really helped prepare her because she ate like she had been doing it for months. She also got her first bottle of formula which she downed in no time with no complaint. Life is good!

We had a great weekend. My high school friend Ally came to town for a short but sweet weekend visit. It was great to catch up with her and it was her first time meeting Adelyn. Brian took over Saturday afternoon and Ally and I got to hang out, do some shopping and go out for dinner. It was so much fun, but definitely a sign of how old we've become (or maybe just me) when we were home by 9:30 and I fell asleep shortly after. It was so great to see her though and I can't wait until our next trip to see her again!

Lost and Found

About two months ago one of Addy's pacifiers went missing. The purple one to be specific. We looked everywhere for that thing and couldn't find it anywhere. It drove Brian crazy that we couldn't find it and I think a part of him thought I lost it somewhere else (part of me might have thought that too). Well last night we lost another one. I went into her room in the middle of the night to put the pacifier back in her mouth, but it was nowhere to be found. I knew it had to be there somewhere but I couldn't find it and didn't feel like searching for it. So tonight I looked everywhere for it. Under the crib, under the mattress, behind her toys, everywhere. I was beginning to thinks she ate it. After Brian convinced me that wasn't possible, he began to search for it too. He looked in all of the same places, but he actually lifted the entire mattress out of the crib and removed the crib sheet and then underneath there they were. Both pacifiers wedged into her crib!! Mystery solved.






We found them just in time too, it didn't take Addy long to find a replacement for the pacifier.

More Milestones

Yesterday Brian was playing with Addy when he thought he saw something in her mouth. He wasn't sure and he couldn't get her to sit still enough to really know but he thought it might be a tooth. I, of course, didn't believe him so I had to check for myself. I rubbed my finger across her lower gums and sure enough there was the start of a little tooth! I couldn't believe it! We completely missed all of the signs that she was teething. Sure, she's been drooling a lot, but that's really nothing new. And she wasn't sleeping the best but we thought that was the cold we were all battling. I am still shocked that she already has a tooth and we hardly even noticed. We put one of her teething toys in the freezer and then gave it to her and she just couldn't get enough of it.
She also now rolls freely from front to back and back to front in either direction. It's pretty impressive how far she can roll and scoot herself on the floor. We also have been working more on sitting up. Every time she can do it a little bit longer. I don't know that she's really mastered it, but she can lean way down to the front and then pull herself upright, but eventually she always tips over. It is really cute though and you can tell she's definitely quite proud of herself. We might be just a little proud of her too.

Can I Just Hit Pause?

Addy will be 6 months old in a week and half and I am absolutely loving the stage she is in. Several people have commented how they wish they could keep kids at this age forever and I can definitely see why. It is such a good age. I can set her on the floor and leave the room and she doesn't move. She can't get into anything, she doesn't talk back, she doesn't eat any food that makes a big mess, she is still light enough to carry around in her car seat (although barely), she thinks everything we do is pretty funny and she'll let you read to her without destroying the books. It really just makes me want to push pause and keep her here forever. I love watching her play with her feet and babble. Before I know it she is going to be crawling and eating and making messes everywhere and life as I know it will never be the same. Although, something tells me that I will still be loving every minute of it.

Sleepy

On our first day in Arizona my Dad said he hoped he would be able to have Addy fall asleep on him at least once. I don't think he expected it to happen 3 or 4 times each day. Unfortunately it seems Addy does not enjoy sleeping away from home so there was not a lot of sleeping happening at night, but luckily she seemed to have no problems falling asleep on my Dad for her naps. I was very grateful that each morning my Dad would take her and allow me to go back and sleep a little more. In fact I wish he was here every weekend to do the same.

Addy's Arizona Weekend

Addy and I just got back from a wonderful weekend in Phoenix to visit my Dad. It was a really great trip. Addy really got to bond with her Papa, we got to enjoy some beautiful weather and hang out with some fellow Chefn'ers who also went to Phoenix for the weekend. Some of my favorite moments included trying to keep up with my Dad on a run with Addy in the stroller, watching him put her to sleep (several times!), showing up to a restaurant and asking for a table for six AND three babies and riding on the golf cart with Addy. It was really great to be able to spend so much time with my Dad and to watch he and Addy interact. We are glad to be home but we miss the sun and we miss Papa.
